Richard Sammel stars as ‘Malachia’ in the television adaptation of “The Name of the Rose”.

The Italian-German co-production directed by Giacomo Battiato brings Umberto Eco’s best seller to the small screen more than 30 years after Jean-Jacques Annaud's acclaimed film version.

The show is set in 1327 and tells the story of a wise and enlightened friar and his young apprentice, who investigate a series of mysterious deaths at an abbey - risking the wrath of a powerful Inquisitor.

The cast includes: John Turturro (Barton Fink), Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding), James Cosmo (Braveheart), Michael Emerson (Lost), and Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others).
